Description

Crispy, flavorful Amish Onion Fritters are a comforting and delicious appetizer or side dish that are quick and easy to prepare. Made with sweet onions, a simple batter, and fried to golden-brown perfection, these fritters are a family-pleasing favorite.

Ingredients

– 2 large sweet onions, thinly sliced

– 1 cup all-purpose flour

– 1 teaspoon baking powder

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

– 2 large eggs

– 1/2 cup milk

– Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

1. – In a large bowl, combine the sliced onions, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat the onions evenly.

2. – In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.

3. – Pour the egg mixture into the onion mixture and stir until just combined (do not overmix).

4. – In a large skillet, heat 1/2 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

5. – Working in batches, drop heaping tablespoonfuls of the onion batter into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

6. – Transfer the fried fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

7. – Serve the Amish Onion Fritters warm, either as an appetizer or a delicious side dish.

Notes

– For a crispier texture, let the fried fritters sit for a few minutes on the paper towels before serving.

– Try serving the fritters with a cool, creamy dipping sauce like ranch or sour cream.

– Adjust the seasoning to your taste, adding more salt, pepper, or even a dash of cayenne for a little heat.
