Description
Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a flavor-packed twist on a classic comfort food dish. Tender, Cajun-seasoned chicken is simmered in a zesty, savory sauce and served on soft, toasted buns for a deliciously messy and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
– 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts
– 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
– 1 tbsp olive oil
– 1 red bell pepper, diced
– 1 yellow onion, diced
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 cup tomato sauce
– 1/4 cup ketchup
– 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
– 1 tbsp brown sugar
– 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
– 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
– 6 soft hamburger buns, toasted
– Fresh parsley, for garnish
Instructions
1. – Season the chicken breasts with the Cajun seasoning.
2. – Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5-6 minutes per side, until fully cooked through. Remove from the skillet and shred the chicken using two forks.
3. – In the same skillet, sauté the bell pepper and onion for 5 minutes, until softened. Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
4. – Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, and cayenne (if using). Bring the mixture to a simmer and add the shredded chicken. Cook for 5-10 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
5. – Serve the Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joe mixture on the toasted buns, garnished with fresh parsley.
Notes
– For a spicier version, add more cayenne pepper or use a hotter Cajun seasoning blend.
– Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
