Description

Indulge in the rich, savory flavors of this traditional Baked Scotch Pie. This classic Scottish dish features a flaky pastry crust filled with a well-seasoned ground meat filling, perfect for a cozy meal or sharing with loved ones.

Ingredients

– 1 lb ground beef or lamb

– 1 onion, finely diced

– 2 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 tsp dried thyme

– 1 tsp dried rosemary

– 1 tsp salt

– 1/2 tsp black pepper

– 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed if frozen

– 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

1. – Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

2. – In a large skillet, cook the ground meat over medium-high heat until browned and crumbled, 5-7 minutes.

3. – Add the diced onion and garlic, and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent.

4. – Season the meat mixture with thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.

5. – Unroll the puff pastry sheet and place it into a 9-inch pie dish, pressing it into the sides and bottom.

6. – Spoon the seasoned meat mixture into the pastry-lined pie dish, spreading it out evenly.

7. – Fold the excess pastry over the filling to create a top crust. Crimp the edges to seal.

8. – Brush the top of the pie crust with the beaten egg.

9. – Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and flaky.

10. – Allow the Baked Scotch Pie to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a flakier crust, use a homemade puff pastry or store-bought all-butter version. You can also experiment with different fillings, such as a combination of ground beef and lamb, or adding diced carrots or peas for extra flavor and texture.
