Description
Crack Green Beans are a classic old-fashioned side dish that’s quick, easy, and bursting with flavor. These tender, caramelized green beans are tossed in a sweet and savory glaze made with garlic, bacon, and just a touch of brown sugar. They’re the perfect accompaniment to roasted meats, fried chicken, or any family-style meal.
Ingredients
– 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
– 4 slices bacon, chopped
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 2 tablespoons brown sugar
– 2 tablespoons soy sauce
– 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
– 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
– Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1. In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon from the pan, leaving the bacon grease behind.
2. Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet and sauté for 5-7 minutes, until starting to soften.
3. Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
4. In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Pour the mixture into the skillet and toss to coat the green beans.
5. Cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, until the green beans are tender and the sauce has thickened slightly.
6. Remove from heat and stir in the cooked bacon. Season with salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using).
7. Serve the Crack Green Beans hot, garnished with additional bacon if desired.
Notes
For a slightly sweeter glaze, add an extra 1-2 tablespoons of brown sugar. For a spicier dish, increase the amount of crushed red pepper flakes. The green beans can be made ahead of time and reheated just before serving.
