Description

Indulge in the warm, spicy aroma of freshly baked Fall Scones! This easy recipe delivers a delightful balance of flaky texture and comforting flavors, perfect for enjoying with a hot cup of coffee or tea on a crisp autumn day.

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– 1/4 cup granulated sugar

– 2 teaspoons baking powder

– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

– 1/4 teaspoon salt

– 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cubed

– 3/4 cup cold buttermilk

– 1 egg, beaten

– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. – Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. – In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

3. – Cut in the chilled butter using a pastry blender or two forks until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

4. – In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and vanilla.

5. – Pour the buttermilk mixture into the dry ingredients and stir just until a shaggy dough forms.

6. – Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead a few times until it comes together.

7. – Pat the dough into a 6-inch circle, about 3/4-inch thick.

8. – Cut the circle into 8 wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

9. – Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.

10. – Serve warm, with a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For a sweeter scone, add 2-3 tablespoons of brown sugar to the dry ingredients. You can also experiment with different spices, such as ginger or allspice, to create your own unique fall flavor profile.
