Description
Indulge in the rich, savory flavors of this comforting French Onion and Mushroom Tart with Gruyere Cheese. The caramelized onions, earthy mushrooms, and melty Gruyere create a delectable harmony in every bite.
Ingredients
– 1 sheet of refrigerated pie crust
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
– 4 large onions, thinly sliced
– 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
– 1 cup beef or chicken broth
– 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
– 1 1/2 cups shredded Gruyere cheese
Instructions
1. – Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. – Roll out the pie crust and press it into a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom. Prick the bottom of the crust with a fork and bake for 10 minutes.
3. – In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deeply caramelized.
4. – Add the sliced mushrooms and garlic to the skillet. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, until the mushrooms are tender.
5. – Sprinkle the flour over the onion-mushroom mixture and stir to coat. Pour in the broth and stir until the mixture thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
6. – Remove the partially baked crust from the oven. Spread the onion-mushroom filling evenly into the crust. Top with the shredded Gruyere cheese.
7. – Bake the tart for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
8. – Allow the tart to cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a combination of Gruyere and Swiss cheeses. You can also add a splash of dry white wine or sherry to the onion-mushroom mixture. Serve the tart with a fresh green salad for a complete meal.
