Ingredients
– 1 pound pizza dough, store-bought or homemade
– 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
– 1 package (3.5 ounces) sliced pepperoni
– 1/2 cup tomato sauce
– 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
– 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pizza dough to about 1/4-inch thickness.
3. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter or freehand cut the dough into heart shapes, making sure to cut an even number.
4. Place half of the heart-shaped dough pieces on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
5. In the center of each dough heart, place a small mound of shredded mozzarella cheese, followed by a few slices of pepperoni.
6. Carefully place the remaining heart-shaped dough pieces on top of the filled ones, pressing the edges to seal.
7. Use a fork to crimp and seal the edges of the pockets.
8. Brush the tops of the pockets with a little water and sprinkle with the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt.
9. Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the pockets are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
10. Serve the heart-shaped pepperoni pizza pockets warm, with a side of warm marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
For a healthier option, use low-fat mozzarella cheese and turkey pepperoni. You can also experiment with different fillings, such as spinach and feta or mushroom and onion.
