Description

Homemade Figs Liqueur (Ficoncello) is a rich, velvety liqueur with a deep, complex flavor that’s perfect for sipping or adding to cocktails. This easy-to-make recipe captures the natural sweetness and aroma of fresh figs, resulting in a luxurious and indulgent after-dinner treat.

Ingredients

– 1 pound fresh figs, stems removed and quartered

– 2 cups brandy

– 1 cup white sugar

– 2 cinnamon sticks

– 3 whole cloves

– 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise

Instructions

1. In a large jar or bowl, combine the quartered figs, brandy, sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and vanilla bean. Stir well to combine.

2. Cover the jar and let the mixture steep for 4-6 weeks, stirring occasionally, until the figs have released their juices and the liqueur has developed a rich, complex flavor.

3. Strain the liqueur through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on the solids to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.

4. Pour the strained liqueur into clean bottles or jars and seal. Store in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year.

Notes

– For a smoother texture, you can strain the liqueur a second time through a coffee filter or cheesecloth. – Try adding a splash of Homemade Figs Liqueur (Ficoncello) to your favorite cocktails, or serve it chilled as an after-dinner digestif.
