Ingredients
– 3 pounds apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter
– 1/2 cup brown sugar
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Instructions
1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
2. Add the chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir to combine.
3. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes, or until the apples are very soft and the sauce has thickened.
4. Use a potato masher or immersion blender to mash the apples to your desired consistency, leaving some chunky pieces.
5. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
6. Serve the Hot Buttered Apple Sauce warm, over pancakes, waffles, or as a dip.
Notes
For a smoother texture, blend the apple sauce using a regular blender or food processor. For a thicker consistency, cook the sauce for a few extra minutes. This apple sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
