Ingredients
– 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
– 1 cup diced onion
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes
– 1 tsp dried oregano
– 1 tsp dried basil
– 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
– 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
– 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
– 1/2 cup sliced pepperoni (optional)
– 2 tbsp fresh basil leaves, chopped
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef or Italian sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it up as it cooks.
3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 2-3 minutes, until the onion is translucent.
4. Stir in the diced tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
5. Transfer the meat and tomato mixture to a 9-inch pie dish or baking pan.
6. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese over the top.
7. If using, arrange the sliced pepperoni over the cheese.
8. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
9. Remove from the oven and garnish with the chopped fresh basil leaves.
