Description

Discover the authentic taste of Mexico with this Classic Mexican Gorditas Recipe, a quick and easy meal that’s perfect for busy weeknights. These pillowy, golden-brown pastries are filled with your choice of savory toppings for a delicious and satisfying comfort food experience.

Ingredients

– 2 cups masa harina

– 1 teaspoon salt

– 1 1/2 cups warm water

– 1/4 cup vegetable oil, plus more for frying

– 1 onion, diced

– 1 bunch of cilantro, chopped

– 1 cup crema or sour cream

Instructions

1. – In a large bowl, combine the masa harina and salt. Gradually add the warm water and knead the dough until it comes together and is smooth.

2. – Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each into a ball.

3. – In a large skillet, heat 1/4 cup of vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

4. – Working in batches, flatten each dough ball into a round, flat shape and carefully add it to the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

5. – Remove the fried gorditas from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

6. – To serve, top the warm gorditas with diced onions, chopped cilantro, and a drizzle of crema or sour cream.

Notes

– For a heartier filling, you can add shredded chicken, ground beef, or your favorite Mexican-inspired toppings.

– Leftover gorditas can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet or the oven before serving.
