Description

This pumpkin sourdough bread is the ultimate fall comfort food. It’s soft, tender, and infused with the flavors of pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Bake it in just 3 hours for a delicious homemade treat that’s perfect for chilly days.

Ingredients

– 1 cup active sourdough starter

– 1 cup pumpkin puree

– 1/4 cup honey

– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

– 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

– 1/2 teaspoon salt

– 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions

1. 1. In a large bowl, combine the sourdough starter, pumpkin puree, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until well combined.

2. 2. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.

3. 3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.

4. 4. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.

5. 5. Punch down the dough and shape it into a round loaf. Place the loaf in a greased 9-inch bread pan.

6. 6. Cover and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.

7. 7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

8. 8. Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

9. 9. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For a crisper crust, brush the top of the loaf with a beaten egg white before baking. You can also add chopped walnuts or pecans to the dough for extra texture and flavor.
