Ingredients
2 cups whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1. In a medium saucepan, combine the milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally, until the mixture begins to steam and bubble slightly around the edges, about 3-5 minutes.
2. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the sugar and salt. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the sugar has fully dissolved and the mixture has thickened to a porridge-like consistency, about 2-3 minutes more.
3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and serve the Rømmegrøt warm, garnished with a sprinkle of cinnamon, a drizzle of honey, or your favorite toppings.
Notes
For a richer, creamier Rømmegrøt, you can use an even higher ratio of heavy cream to milk. Adjust the sugar to taste, adding more or less depending on your preference. Rømmegrøt also tastes delicious chilled, so feel free to make a batch ahead of time and enjoy it cold.
