Ingredients
– 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
– 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, Gruyère, or a blend)
– 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (such as thyme, rosemary, or chives)
– 1 egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water for egg wash
Instructions
1. – Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. – Unfold the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal rectangles.
3. – In a small bowl, mix together the shredded cheese and chopped herbs.
4. – Place 3 of the pastry rectangles on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon the cheese-herb mixture onto the center of each rectangle, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
5. – Brush the exposed borders of the pastry with the egg wash.
6. – Top each filled rectangle with another pastry rectangle and press the edges to seal.
7. – Use a fork to crimp and seal the edges of the pop-tarts.
8. – Brush the tops of the pop-tarts with the remaining egg wash.
9. – Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
10. – Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a crispier crust, you can brush the tops of the pop-tarts with melted butter or a light coating of olive oil before baking. Experiment with different cheese and herb combinations to suit your taste.
