Description

Savor the bold flavors of this comforting and easy-to-make Shrimp and Grits (Cajun Style) recipe. Tender shrimp are simmered in a rich, Cajun-spiced sauce and served over creamy, buttery grits for a satisfying and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

– 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined

– 2 cups quick-cooking grits

– 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth

– 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided

– 1 yellow onion, diced

– 3 cloves garlic, minced

– 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning

– 1 cup heavy cream

– Salt and black pepper to taste

– Chopped scallions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. In a large saucepan, bring the broth to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low, then slowly whisk in the grits. Cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of the butter. Cover and keep warm.

2. In a large skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. Add the onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and Cajun seasoning and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.

3. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, until the shrimp are pink and opaque, about 3-5 minutes. Pour in the heavy cream and bring to a simmer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until the sauce has thickened slightly.

4. Spoon the creamy grits into bowls and top with the Cajun shrimp mixture. Garnish with chopped scallions, if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

For a spicier version, add a dash of hot sauce or increase the amount of Cajun seasoning. You can also use stone-ground grits for a heartier texture.
