Description

Soft, chewy tang yuan (sweet rice balls) are a beloved Chinese dessert that are surprisingly easy to make at home. With just 3 simple ingredients, you can whip up a batch of these comforting, bite-sized treats in no time.

Ingredients

– 1 cup glutinous rice flour

– 1/2 cup warm water

– 2 tablespoons cornstarch (for dusting)

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour and warm water. Knead the mixture until a smooth, pliable dough forms.

2. Pinch off a small amount of dough and roll it into a smooth ball, about 1-inch in diameter. Repeat with the remaining dough.

3. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Gently drop the tang yuan balls into the boiling water and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until they float to the surface.

4. Remove the cooked tang yuan with a slotted spoon and transfer to a serving bowl. Dust with cornstarch before serving.

Notes

Tang yuan can be served warm or at room temperature. For a sweeter version, toss the cooked balls in a simple syrup or serve them in a warm, sweetened broth.
