Description
Mujadara is a beloved Lebanese dish that combines lentils and rice in a savory, aromatic, and nourishing one-pot meal. This easy-to-make version is packed with flavor and perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
– 1 cup brown lentils, rinsed
– 1 cup long-grain white rice, rinsed
– 1 large onion, diced
– 3 cloves garlic, minced
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
– 1 teaspoon ground cumin
– 1 teaspoon ground coriander
– 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
– 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
– 4 cups vegetable or chicken broth
– Salt and pepper to taste
– Chopped parsley for garnish
– Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions
– In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 5-7 minutes until translucent.
– Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
– Stir in the rinsed lentils, rice, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and allspice. Season with salt and pepper.
– Pour in the broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
– Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the lentils and rice are tender and the liquid is absorbed.
– Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
– Fluff the Mujadara with a fork and garnish with chopped parsley.
– Serve warm, with lemon wedges on the side.
Notes
– For a richer flavor, sauté the onions and garlic in 2 tablespoons of ghee or butter instead of olive oil.
– Adjust the spices to your taste, adding more or less of each to suit your preference.
– Mujadara can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat gently before serving.
